robot33 is the payment layer behind contract marketplaces. The client funds the project up front, we hold the money while the work happens, and the contractor is paid once it's approved — so neither side has to trust the other first.
See how it worksTalk to usFour steps. The client and contractor stay on the marketplace the whole time — robot33 runs in the background.
At hire, the client pays the agreed project amount through a secure checkout. Card details go straight to our payment processor — never to the marketplace.
The money sits with robot33 for the duration of the project. The contractor can see it's funded and start work knowing the budget is real.
The contractor delivers. The client reviews and approves the work from their dashboard. If something's wrong, it's raised before any money moves.
On approval, robot33 releases the funds to the contractor, minus the 1% platform fee and payment processing costs. Payment goes out to their bank on file.
Contract work breaks down in two predictable places. Holding the money solves both at once.
The most common failure in freelance work is finished work that never gets paid for. If the money is already funded and held, the contractor knows the budget exists before writing a line of code.
The mirror problem: money sent up front to someone who disappears. Funds held by robot33 aren't released until the client says the work is done.
Payments run through our processor's hosted checkout. Card numbers never reach the marketplace's servers, and neither side sees the other's payment details.
Contractors don't sign up for a payment processor, manage a merchant account, or juggle logins. They give bank details once and get paid.
robot33 operates the payment and fund-holding layer for contract marketplaces, starting with getcodestaff.io. If you see robot33 on a card statement, it's for a project funded through a marketplace we support.
A 1% platform fee on the project amount, plus payment processing costs (2.9% + $0.30 on card payments), both deducted when funds are released to the contractor. On a $5,000 project that's $50 platform + $145.30 processing, so the contractor receives $4,804.70. There is no separate charge to fund a project and no monthly fee.
Until the client approves the delivered work. Most projects release within days of delivery. Funds are never held indefinitely — every project has a defined completion and release point.
If a client and contractor disagree about whether work was delivered, funds stay held while we review what both sides submit. We look at the agreed scope and what was actually delivered, then release to the appropriate party.
Contractors provide their bank details and identifying information once, through a secure form. When a project is approved, payment is sent to that account. Identity information is required by law for anyone receiving funds.
robot33 currently supports projects where the client and contractor are located in California. We're expanding to additional states — contact devin@robot33.xyz about your location before starting a project.
